I am Sarah Grieve, I live in Scarborough with my husband Jim, step-son Max and our little Sprocker Spaniel Ivy. I have two beautiful grown up children who live close by. I was born in Barnsley and moved to Scarborough when I was 3. This is where I stayed until I was 19 when I moved to Amersham in Buckinghamshire to complete my General Nurse Training. After a few months I realised that my passion was Mental Health Nursing and I changed direction. I have been a registered Mental health nurse since 1995 and have had an amazing career with so many opportunities. I have a broad range of experience including working in mental health hospitals, forensic inpatient services and rehabilitation. I have also worked with young people between 14-35 with a first episode of psychosis. I have specialist training in Eating Disorders and practiced as specialist Practitioner for Eating Disorders in Scarborough Whitby and Ryedale for over 4 years.
I currently practice as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner within a Community Mental Health Team. This is a leadership role which has given me the opportunity to further develop my team building skills within a very busy, high pressured area of mental health. I love being a Nurse after all these years and have developed personally over the last few years and have looked for more opportunities. In the last year I have been successful in gaining a new role as Specialist Advisor for the Care Quality Commission (CQC) This involves visiting different health care settings within the public and private sector to support inspections. I am also a visiting lecturer with York St. John University for the Mental Health Nurse Training Programme.
More recently I have become more involved with supporting people with autism who have mental health problems. This has included creating their own health passport for ensuring that they receive the care that they should. I have been able to have specialist supervision and training with the autism team to further develop my skills.
Over the last few years I have been taking stock of my own life and looking at the possibilities in front of me. I have known that I needed a change of direction and have considered doing something different from Nursing and focus on other things…..BUT I LOVE IT!! I guess I just felt that I wanted to be more in control of the decisions that I make. I really want to help individuals and businesses to improve their mental health and achieve life goals. We all know that this can be difficult at times with the things that life throws at us.
My Mission
My mission is to help people make sense of how they are struggling with their mental health and support them to develop strategies and make changes necessary to achieve life goals. Life is stressful since COVID and the increased cost of living people have less resilience and are experiencing symptoms of stress that can be debilitating. This can impact sleep, appetite, mood and the ability to be able to relax and be in the moment. It can be difficult to gather your thoughts and stay focussed on the important things. Different people respond differently to different strategies and a comprehensive assessment is important to get the right course of action.
The Aim
There are some very effective techniques that I can share with you improve your mental health. Mental health services are at breaking point. Recruitment is difficult and waiting lists are long. It can take a long time to be referred to the most appropriate service during which time there may be further deterioration in the persons mental health and take more time to recover. There is a misconception that a diagnosis is necessary to get the right treatment when in fact the most important thing is to understand the person’s journey, how it has made them feel and deliver a bespoke package of coaching to support recovery.
